CARE GUIDE

Cleaning
To clean your jewellery, scrub gently with a soft toothbrush or paintbrush in a solution of warm water and dish soap. Dry thoroughly.

Tarnishing
Sterling silver contains alloys that interact with oxygen in the air and cause the metal to tarnish over time. Wearing the jewellery helps prevent tarnishing, along with avoiding contact with water and storing it in a cool, dry place. Use the polishing cloth contained with your order to remove any light tarnish, or a solution of baking soda and warm water with a soft toothbrush to remove tougher tarnish.

Gold Vermeil Plating
Gold vermeil plating is durable and long-lasting, but not imperishable. All Poppy Taylor-Smith gold vermeil jewellery is ‘hard-plated’ with a layer of at least 3 microns of fairmined 18 carat gold over sterling silver (with rings receiving an extra thick 4 micron layer coating). While vermeil jewellery is hard-wearing, with a layer of gold over five times thicker than ‘gold-plated’ items, friction with wear is inevitable over time. Longevity of plating depends on the piece and how each individual wears their jewellery, and therefore cannot be estimated, but generally lasts longer on pieces exposed to minimal friction and abrasion; e.g. earrings and pendants.

To keep your vermeil jewellery looking its best, avoid exposure to water, chlorine, suncream, perfume, hairspray, etc.  See here for our replating policy.

RING SIZING

For reliable sizing, head to a local jeweller and measure yourself using their ring gauge. Alternatively, buy our ring gauge set here to measure yourself accurately at home. If you are buying as a surprise, generally popular women’s ring sizes are L, M and N for middle and ring fingers and G or H for pinky fingers. If you know your Euopean or US ring sizes, refer to the conversion chart below.
